Motor 01 — Three ways to stop

Briefing

STOP is not the only way a motor stops. The emergency stop (ESTOP) and the thermal overload relay (THERMAL_OL) must stop it too. Both read TRUE when active. When either clears, the motor must stay off. Only a new START may run it again, and START must be ignored while either is still active. RUN_LAMP shows when the motor is on.

Objectives

  • START runs MOTOR and RUN_LAMP; they stay on after you release START
  • STOP_PB, ESTOP or THERMAL_OL each stop MOTOR and RUN_LAMP
  • After ESTOP or THERMAL_OL clears, MOTOR stays off until START is pressed again
  • START does nothing while ESTOP or THERMAL_OL is active

Hints

  • List every input that means "stop now". Which of them are TRUE when the machine is in trouble?
  • Each of those inputs has to switch the motor off, and the motor must stay off after the input clears. Which kind of coil remembers?
  • Test the awkward case: ESTOP is held down and someone presses START. The motor must not run, and START must work again once ESTOP is released.
  • RUN_LAMP is its own output. It should be on exactly when MOTOR is on, so give it its own rung.

Your program will be tested against:

All test cases run automatically when you submit. Assertions are hidden until you pass.

  1. #1START → MOTOR and RUN_LAMP on

A START pulse runs the motor and the lamp, and they hold after release

  2. #2STOP → MOTOR and RUN_LAMP off

A STOP pulse after START switches both outputs off

  3. #3ESTOP stops the motor, and it stays off after ESTOP clears

The motor does not restart by itself when the emergency stop is released

  4. #4THERMAL_OL stops the motor, and it stays off after the overload clears

The motor does not restart by itself when the overload relay clears

  5. #5START does nothing while ESTOP is active

With ESTOP held, START cannot run the motor; once ESTOP clears, START works again

  6. #6START does nothing while THERMAL_OL is active

With the overload tripped, START cannot run the motor; once it clears, START works again
